As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate closely with teachers to provide personalised support for students, helping them to navigate their educational journey while addressing their mental health needs. Your role will be essential in fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
Responsibilities as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant:
- Offer personalised assistance to students experiencing mental health challenges, ensuring students feel safe and supported.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and respected.
- Track student behaviour and emotional well-being, providing constructive feedback and insights to teachers and parents.
- Engage with students during break times and extracurricular activities, helping to facilitate positive social interactions.
- Work with teachers to implement strategies and interventions tailored to individual student needs.
- Maintain open lines of communication with teachers, parents, and external professionals regarding student progress and well-being.
- Promote social skills and emotional resilience, guiding students in developing coping mechanisms and problem-solving abilities.
Requirements for the Mental Health Teaching Assistant role:
- Previous experience working with children or young people, especially those with mental health needs.
- Strong knowledge of mental health challenges and supportive strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for engaging with students, teachers, and parents.
- Collaborative skills to work effectively with teachers and support staff.
- Willingness to adjust to students’ changing needs and implement individualised support plans.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply.
