Salary: £12.82 to £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are delighted to be recruiting for a passionate and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) in an SEN school located in Basingstoke. This role is integral to providing tailored support to students with Special Educational Needs, helping them flourish academically and socially. Your efforts will contribute significantly to fostering an inclusive educational environment where every student feels valued and empowered.

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will be essential for aiding students with Special Educational Needs. The majority of your responsibility is to help these students overcome impediments to their education and accomplish their academic and personal objectives. You will collaborate closely with educators and other support personnel to provide tailored learning opportunities that meet the needs of every student.

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small-group support for pupils with SEN, including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and Speech & Language difficulties.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage students to engage in lessons and activities, promoting independence and confidence.
  • Adapt learning materials and strategies to meet the specific needs of each pupil.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs.
  • Offer emotional and behavioural support, ensuring a safe and positive learning atmosphere.
  • Support teachers in managing classroom behaviour in line with the school’s policies.
  • Liaise with parents, caregivers and external professionals to provide comprehensive student support.

SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements:

  • CACHE Level 2 or 3 or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistance or Childcare is highly desirable.
  • A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, or a similar support role in a classroom or school setting, is preferred.
  • Understanding of various Special Educational Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
  • Patience, adaptability and a genuine commitment to supporting students' growth.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
