Secondary English Teacher

Location: Southampton
Salary: £30,000 - £46,535 per annum (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Full Time / Permanent

GSL Education are excited to be working with a secondary school in Southampton to recruit a committed and enthusiastic Secondary English Teacher. This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive impact on student’s educational journeys and contribute to the development of a high standard of English education across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

As an English Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and challenging lessons that help students develop their literacy skills, analytical thinking, and appreciation of literature. You will work in collaboration with colleagues to ensure the curriculum is enriching and accessible, fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.

As a Teacher of English, your responsibilities will be:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver English lessons to students in Key Stages 3, 4 and 5, focusing on both language and literature.
  • Develop differentiated resources and activities to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Assess students' progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and tailored support.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and discipline, ensuring a positive learning environment.
  • Foster a love for reading, writing, and critical thinking among students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Contribute to the development of the English curriculum and extracurricular activities.
  • Promote the development of students’ verbal and written communication skills.

What we are looking for:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or ECT (Early Career Teacher) status.
  • A degree in English or a related subject.
  • Previous experience in teaching English at Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 or experience as an NQT/ECT.
  • A deep passion for English literature and language.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage students in lively, productive discussions.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and a proactive approach to teaching.
  • Enhanced DBS check on the update service or willingness to apply for one.
