Secondary Teaching Assistant

Location: Southampton
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate / April 2025
Contract Type: Full Time / Permanent (Part-time can also be arranged for the right candidate)

If so, GSL Education are looking for a dedicated Secondary Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic school in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is enthusiastic about helping students excel in a classroom environment while gaining valuable experience in the education sector.

As a Secondary Teaching Assistant (Secondary TA), you will work closely with teachers to support students in Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, providing one-to-one and small-group assistance. You will play a crucial role in enhancing student engagement, helping to create an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere where every student can thrive.

Secondary TA Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and structured lessons across various subjects.
  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students, reinforcing learning objectives.
  • Support students in Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, ensuring they remain engaged and motivated.
  • Help prepare classroom materials and resources to facilitate effective learning.
  • Offer behavioural and emotional support to students, encouraging confidence and participation.
  • Assist with exam preparation and revision sessions, ensuring students feel prepared.
  • Work alongside teachers to implement individual learning plans (ILPs) for students with additional needs.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters student success.
  • Supervise students during breaks, lunchtimes, and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain strong communication with teachers, staff, and parents regarding student progress.

Requirements that we need in a Secondary TA:

  • A CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance (preferred but not mandatory).
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience working in a school as a Secondary Teaching Assistant or supporting young learners.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with students.
  • The ability to adapt to different learning needs and styles.
  • A proactive and positive attitude towards helping students succeed.
