Job Title: Learning Support Mentor (SEN)
Location: Southampton
Salary: £12.83 per hour
Start Date: Immediate/Easter 2025 start

Contract Type: Full-time/Part-time and Permanent/Fixed-term

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Mentor (SEN), you will play a pivotal role in supporting students with a range of additional needs, ensuring they receive tailored support to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers and SEN coordinators, you will provide one-on-one and group interventions, adapting your approach to suit individual learning styles. Your role will be integral to promoting inclusion and fostering confidence, engagement and independence in students with SEN.

Responsibilities of the Learning Support Mentor (SEN):

  • Provide personalised support to students with SEN, addressing their academic, emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Assist teachers in implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and differentiated learning strategies.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, SEN coordinators and external specialists to ensure cohesive support for students.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment that encourages engagement and positive behaviour.
  • Assist with personal care tasks where necessary, ensuring students’ well-being and comfort.
  • Promote an inclusive classroom ethos, celebrating diversity and encouraging all students to reach their potential.

Requirements of the Learning Support Mentor (SEN): To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A relevant qualification in education, psychology, SEN, or a related field (desirable but not essential).
  • Experience working as a Learning Support Mentor or in a similar SEN support role within an educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of SEN, including conditions such as autism, ADHD and speech and language difficulties.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build strong relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • A patient, empathetic and proactive approach to supporting students with diverse needs.
  • The ability to implement behaviour management strategies and support students in developing coping mechanisms.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
