SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire
Start Date: ASAP
Salary: £83 – £100 per day
Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking SEMH Teaching Assistants to work at a specialist school in Scarborough, providing education to students aged 8 to 16 with SEMH needs.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to students who face significant barriers to learning due to their social, emotional and mental health needs.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to children and young people to address their social, academic and emotional needs.
  • Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviours.
  • Encourage the development of social skills and emotional resilience.
  • Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
  • Attend relevant training sessions and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with SEMH needs.

SEMH Teaching Assistant Requirements: 

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, or in similar roles such as youth work or care.
  • Understanding of SEMH-related challenges and appropriate strategies for intervention and support.  
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.  
  • Be able to work collaboratively with staff members and outside agencies, such as counsellors and mental health professionals.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one with GSL Education.
