Special Needs Teaching Assistant – ALTON – GU34

GSL Education are working with a Special Needs school in Alton who are looking for additional Student Support Assistants (Teaching Assistants) to join their team!

The school caters for children and young adults aged 4-25 with complex learning needs. This includes those who are physically disabled, have complex needs, sensory impairments and profound multiple learning difficulties.

You will help our students to be as independent as possible in their daily life, recognise and encourage them to thrive in all areas and help them learn vital life skills. Those who are successful in the role will assist children and young people with daily personal care needs including feeding, changing and toileting and dressing.

Who we are looking for:

We are looking for compassionate and patient Teaching Assistants to join the school on a full time, long term basis. We are looking for someone with an adaptable approach along with a great sense of humour and the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and staff. 

Your role will be to support children with PMLD, focusing on their unique learning, communication, and individual care needs. You will work collaboratively with the class teacher, on site therapists and the nursing team to implement tailored learning and therapy programmes, ensuring each child is given the opportunity to achieve their full potential in a nurturing and supportive environment.

You will provide one-to-one and small group support for children with PMLD, adapting to their individual needs and will use specialised strategies and resources (e.g., sensory equipment) to engage students and foster their development.

Requirements:

  • Experience supporting children with SEND (professionally or personally)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with children and their families
  • A patient, empathetic, and positive attitude toward supporting children with additional needs
  • A collaborative approach to working alongside teachers, parents, and other professionals
  • Be available asap on a full time basis
