Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Waterlooville
Salary Range: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start time: ASAP
Contract: Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time

GSL Education are a leading recruitment agency specialising in placing education professionals into schools and other educational settings. We are currently looking for a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic school in Waterlooville.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a compassionate and committed SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) to support students with a range of special educational needs. As a SEN Teaching Assistant (TA), you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help students with learning, emotional and behavioural challenges access the curriculum and engage in a meaningful and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with special educational needs (SEN), including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of individual learning plans (IEPs) and personalised learning strategies.
  • Support students in their social, emotional and academic development, fostering independence and confidence.
  • Help to adapt teaching resources and activities to meet the specific needs of students.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, offering feedback and support to ensure they achieve their learning goals.
  • Support students during breaks, lunchtime and extracurricular activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Assist in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement techniques and help create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO and other professionals to promote the overall development of the students.

Who We Are Looking For:
The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable, but not essential.
  • Understanding of a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and learning disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using initiative when needed.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, are preferred but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

To work with GSL Education as a SEN Teaching Assistant, you should:

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
