Job Title: EAL and SEN Support Assistant
Location: Colchester
Salary: £80 - £100 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate

We are looking for a compassionate and experienced EAL and SEN Support Assistant to join an outstanding school in Colchester. You will work closely with the teaching team to help students overcome challenges, develop their language skills, and ensure that they can fully engage in their educational experience.
About the Role:
As an EAL and SEN Support Assistant, you will provide one-on-one and small group support to students who have additional language needs and/or special educational needs. Your role will focus on helping students build their confidence in using English and assist with their academic progress by providing tailored support that meets their individual needs. Working in collaboration with teachers, you will contribute to the delivery of a structured and engaging learning experience that enables all students to succeed.
Responsibilities of an EAL and SEN Support Assistant:
- Language Support: Provide targeted support to students with EAL, helping them to develop their English language skills both in and out of the classroom.
- SEN Assistance: Offer tailored support to students with SEN, assisting with learning strategies and helping them engage fully in lessons and activities.
- Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Assist in the implementation of IEPs, working with the teacher to adjust learning materials and teaching methods to meet the needs of each student.
- Social and Emotional Support: Help students build their social skills, self-confidence, and independence, enabling them to feel confident in their learning environment.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and record the progress of students, providing regular feedback to teachers, parents, and other staff members.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers to support the development of effective lesson plans and teaching resources that cater to the needs of both EAL and SEN students.
- Classroom Management: Assist with maintaining a positive classroom environment, ensuring that all students feel supported and included.
- Inclusive Learning Environment: Foster an inclusive atmosphere that promotes equality and supports the well-being of all students.
- Professional Development: Participate in school meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in EAL and SEN support.
Job Requirements:
- Experience in EAL/SEN Support: Previous experience working as a Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, or in a similar role supporting students with EAL and/or SEN is desirable.
- Educational Background: A background in education, psychology, linguistics, or a related field would be beneficial, but not essential.
- Passion for Supporting Students: A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and develop essential academic, social, and emotional skills.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents to build positive relationships and support students’ progress.
- Knowledge of EAL and SEN Needs: Understanding of the challenges faced by students with EAL and/or SEN and the ability to implement effective support strategies.
- Commitment to Inclusion: A dedication to creating an inclusive learning environment where every student is given the opportunity to succeed.
- Clear Enhanced DBS: Have an updated CV (with two relevant references from the last two years and covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
