Salary: £12.82 to £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)

Contract: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

About the Role:

As an SEN Teaching Assistant (TA), you will be crucial in supporting students with Special Educational Needs. Your primary responsibility is to assist these students in overcoming barriers to learning and to help them achieve their educational and personal goals. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to deliver tailored educational experiences that cater to the individual needs of each student.

SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with special educational needs (SEN), including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and other learning difficulties.
  • Assist in the creation and implementation of individual learning plans (IEPs) and personalised learning strategies.
  • Support students in their social, emotional and academic development, fostering independence and confidence.
  • Monitor and record students’ progress, offering feedback and support to ensure they achieve their learning goals.
  • Support students during breaks, lunchtime and extracurricular activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Assist in managing behaviour using positive reinforcement techniques and help create a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere.
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCO and other professionals to promote the overall development of the students.

SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) Job Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable, but not essential.
  • CACHE Level 2 or 3 or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Teaching Assistance or Childcare is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of a range of SEN, including autism, ADHD, dyslexia and learning disabilities.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • A patient, adaptable and proactive approach to supporting students.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also using initiative when needed.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
