About the Role

As a Teaching Assistant - Post 16 in Sunderland, you will play a crucial role in supporting students aged 16 and above. You will assist teachers in delivering engaging lessons, provide one-on-one support to students, and help create a positive and inclusive learning environment. Your role will also involve supporting students with their coursework, helping them to develop study skills, and encouraging their academic and personal growth. Key Responsibilities of Teaching Assistant - Post 16

  • Support Individual Learning Plans: Assist in the development and implementation of individualised education plans for post-16 students.
  • Provide Targeted Support: Offer one-on-one and small group support tailored to students’ needs, ensuring they receive the attention and assistance required to succeed.
  • Monitor Progress: Track and assess student progress, adapting support strategies as necessary to ensure each student is progressing towards their goals.
  • Collaborate with Staff and Parents: Work closely with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to each student’s education and well-being.
  • Create a Positive Environment: Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported.
  • Engage and Motivate Students: Use a variety of methods to engage and motivate students, catering to different learning styles and preferences.
  • Maintain Records: Keep detailed records of each student’s progress, including assessments, observations, and feedback, and communicate this information to relevant parties.

Requirements of Teaching Assistant - Post 16

  • Experience: Prior experience in supporting post-16 students is essential.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills for effectively interacting with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain strong, supportive relationships with all members of the school community.
  • Commitment: Demonstrate a deep commitment to helping students, exhibiting patience and empathy.
  • Qualifications: Relevant qualifications or training in education (desirable but not essential).
