Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Poole
Salary: £12.82 to £14.72 per hour (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: January 2025
Contract Type: Full-time / Part-time

GSL Education are looking for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) to join an outstanding school in Christchurch. As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a vital role in supporting children with mental health challenges, helping them to develop confidence, resilience, and a love for learning.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA), you will play a vital role in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for students with mental health challenges. Working closely with teachers and support staff, you will provide personalised assistance, helping students overcome barriers to learning, build confidence, and develop resilience. Your responsibilities will include offering one-to-one or small group support, promoting emotional well-being, and encouraging positive behaviours to help students thrive both academically and socially.

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with mental health needs on a one-to-one or small group basis.
  • Help implement strategies that promote emotional well-being and positive behaviour.
  • Work closely with teachers and SEN teams to deliver tailored support plans.
  • Build trust and rapport with students to encourage confidence and participation in learning.
  • Monitor and record student progress, reporting any concerns to the SENCO or pastoral team.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant (TA) or in a similar role is advantageous.
  • A strong understanding of mental health challenges in children and young people.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to form positive relationships with students and staff.
  • A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting children’s needs.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
