As a Learning Support Assistant at a special educational needs (SEN) school, you will have the unique opportunity to provide individualised support to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and thrive in a nurturing environment. Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:
- Provide personalised 1:1 support to non-verbal students, adapting communication techniques to meet their needs.
- Assist in managing challenging behaviour, using appropriate strategies to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Promote an inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe, respected, and encouraged to learn.
- Help students develop essential life skills, including communication, social interaction, and personal care.
- Maintain strong communication with staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for each student.
Requirements of the Learning Support Assistant:
- Experience working with students with special educational needs (SEN), particularly in a 1:1 capacity.
- Confidence in managing challenging behaviour with a calm and positive approach.
- Strong communication skills to engage with students, staff, and families.
- A genuine commitment to supporting the educational and emotional needs of students with special educational needs (SEN).
- Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
