SEMH Teaching Assistant 
Location: Ringwood 
Job Type: Full-time/Part-time 
Salary: £76.92 - £95.68 per day (Depending on experience) 
Start Date: January 2025

Responsibilities: 

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will: 

  • Support students with SEMH needs on a one-to-one basis and in small group settings. 

  • Assist the teacher in delivering creative and engaging lessons that cater to students’ individual needs. 

  • Help implement personalised strategies to promote students’ emotional well-being and academic development. 

  • Provide a calm and supportive presence, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. 

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals to monitor and support Individual Education Plans (IEPs). 

  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies and act as a role model for students. 

  • Track student progress, celebrate achievements, and provide feedback to staff and families. 

 

Requirements: 

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you should have: 

  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEMH needs (preferred). 

  • A strong understanding of SEMH challenges and strategies to support students’ well-being. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build trusting relationships with students and colleagues. 

  • The ability to remain calm, patient, and adaptable in a dynamic educational environment. 

  • A compassionate and resilient approach to working with students with additional needs. 

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
