SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant
Location: Newham
Salary: £90-£100 per day (Depending on Experience)
Start Date: 6th January 2025
Hours: 8.30 am - 4.00 pm
Contract Type: Long-Term, Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant to join a dynamic school in Newham. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' learning and well-being. In this role, you will work closely with students who face SEMH challenges, supporting their emotional and behavioural development within the classroom environment. You will help create a positive and safe learning atmosphere where students feel motivated and engaged.

SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies to promote positive behaviours in the classroom.
- Support students in managing their emotions and improving their social skills.
- Help to create and maintain an inclusive, nurturing environment for students with SEMH challenges.
- Work closely with the SENCO and other staff members to develop and implement individualised behaviour plans.
- Provide support to students in overcoming barriers to learning caused by SEMH issues.
- Help students engage with the curriculum through tailored support and differentiated activities.
- Promote self-esteem and build trusting relationships with students.
- Track and monitor student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents.
- Support students during transitions and assist with personal care where needed.
- Encourage students to take responsibility for their behaviour and learning.
- Maintain a safe and orderly environment, following the school’s safeguarding and behavioural guidelines.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs as an SEMH Behaviour Teaching Assistant, is highly desirable.
- CACHE Level 2 or 3, NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance, or similar qualifications are preferred.
- A degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field is beneficial.
- Strong understanding of SEMH needs and experience in implementing behaviour management techniques.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Passion for supporting students with additional emotional and behavioural challenges.
