About the Role
As a Mental Health Support Worker in Weymouth, you will be a key figure in supporting students with mental health needs. You will provide one-on-one and group support to help students manage their mental health, develop and implement mental health strategies, and work closely with teachers and other staff to create a positive learning environment. Your role will also involve supporting students in developing social skills and emotional resilience, monitoring and recording their progress and behaviour, and liaising with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure comprehensive support for students.
Responsibilities of Mental Health Support Worker
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to create tailored mental health plans that address the specific needs of each student. Regularly review and adjust these plans to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
- Offer one-on-one and small group interventions to help students manage their mental health. Use evidence-based strategies to support students in developing positive mental health habits and overcoming challenges.
- Teach and reinforce self-regulation techniques, helping students to understand and manage their emotions and behaviours. Encourage positive interactions and model appropriate behaviour.
- Work alongside classroom teachers to implement mental health strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment. Support teachers in addressing mental health issues and fostering a culture of respect and cooperation.
- Maintain detailed records of students’ mental health, progress, and any interventions used. Provide regular updates to teachers, parents, and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s development.
- Liaise with external agencies to ensure that students receive comprehensive support. Collaborate with counsellors, social workers, and other professionals to address the broader needs of students and their families.
Requirements of Mental Health Support Worker
- Previous experience as a Mental Health Support Worker or in a similar role.
- A genuine passion for supporting students with mental health needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Relevant qualifications or training in mental health support are desirable.
