SEN Teaching Assistant
£83.33 per day

GSL Education is partnering with an SEND school in Exeter to recruit a SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position, with the potential for a permanent role.

The school offers a highly personalised, wrap-around education programme designed for students with complex needs or EHCP pupils who are at risk of moving into residential placements. These students may have faced challenges in special schools or are transitioning from out-of-county placements.

Each student benefits from bespoke support, including one-to-one assistance and customised timetables rooted in thematic learning approaches. A diverse range of learning opportunities—both in and out of the classroom—is designed to engage students, build resilience, and foster accelerated academic progress.

THE SCHOOL HAS MULTIPLE SETTINGS, AND CANDIDATES MUST BE COMFORTABLE WORKING WITH STUDENTS FROM KS1 TO KS4. THESE ROLES REQUIRE A UK DRIVING LICENCE AND ACCESS TO YOUR OWN CAR.

This role can be demanding, as students often exhibit challenging behaviours. Resilience, patience, and a strong commitment to supporting students' development are essential qualities for success in this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and group support as a SEN Teaching Assistant, ensuring individualised care for students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to develop effective support strategies.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment to enhance students’ social interactions and communication skills.
  • Assist with daily academic and personal tasks while implementing interventions to manage behaviours and encourage positive outcomes.

Requirements:

  • UK DRIVING LICENCE WITH ACCESS TO A CAR.
  • WILLINGNESS TO USE YOUR VEHICLE FOR WORK PURPOSES WITH BUSINESS INSURANCE.
  • Available to start immediately in a full-time capacity.
  • Strong communication skills to ensure effective teamwork and collaboration.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to handle challenging behaviours.
  • Dedication to supporting student progress and success as a SEN Teaching Assistant.
