Job Title: Graduate Teaching Assistant (SEN)
Location: Newcastle
Pay Rate: £87 - £108 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Daily Supply, Long Term

GSL Education are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a dedicated Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a reputable school in Newcastle. This position involves working closely with students with Special Educational Needs, teachers and other support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

About the Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with special educational needs. You will work closely with teachers and help students to overcome learning barriers and develop essential skills. Your role will also involve assisting in the preparation of lesson materials, supporting classroom activities and providing feedback on student progress.

Responsibilities of Graduate Teaching Assistant:

  • Collaborate with teachers to create tailored learning plans that address the specific needs of each student with special educational needs.
  • Offer individual and small group interventions to help students improve their learning outcomes.
  • Use evidence-based strategies to support students in developing their academic and social skills.
  • Encourage positive interactions and model appropriate behaviour.
  • Work alongside classroom teachers to implement learning strategies that promote a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Maintain detailed records of student’s progress and any interventions used. Provide regular updates to teachers, parents and other relevant parties to ensure a coordinated approach to each student’s development.
  • Ensure that students receive comprehensive support by collaborating with counsellors, social workers and other professionals to address the broader needs of students and their families.

Requirements of Graduate Teaching Assistant:

  • A recent graduate with a degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with children or young people, particularly those with special educational needs, is highly desirable.
  • A genuine enthusiasm for education and a commitment to supporting the development and well-being of students with SEN.
  • Understanding of various Special Education Needs conditions, including autism and ADHD etc.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and parents.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
