About the role:
As a Science Teacher, you will inspire curiosity and a passion for discovery by teaching scientific principles and fostering critical thinking. You will design engaging experiments, explain complex concepts, and encourage students to explore the wonders of the natural world.
Responsibilities of the Science Teacher:
- Plan and Deliver Lessons: Create engaging and interactive lessons in Biology, Chemistry, or Physics that align with the curriculum.
- Conduct Experiments: Guide students through practical experiments, promoting hands-on learning and scientific inquiry.
- Assess Student Progress: Regularly evaluate and track student performance through assignments, tests, and projects.
- Promote Critical Thinking: Encourage analytical thinking and problem-solving skills by linking scientific concepts to real-world applications.
- Classroom Management: Maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment for all students.
- Support Individual Learning Needs: Adapt teaching methods to cater to students with diverse abilities and learning styles.
- Encourage Curiosity: Foster a passion for discovery and a lifelong interest in science.
- Collaborate with Colleagues: Work with fellow educators to enhance the science curriculum and share best practices.
- Ensure Safety: Follow all health and safety protocols during practical lessons and lab activities.
- Stay Updated: Keep up with advancements in science and education to continuously improve teaching methods.
Requirements of the Science Teacher:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): A mandatory requirement for teaching in the UK.
- Educational Background: A degree in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or a related subject.
- Teaching Skills: Ability to design and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons aligned with the curriculum.
- Experience: Prior teaching experience is an advantage, but passionate newly qualified teachers are welcome.
- Scientific Knowledge: Strong understanding of scientific concepts and their real-world applications.
- Classroom Management: Skills to create a positive learning environment and manage diverse student needs.
- Communication: Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Practical Expertise: Confidence in conducting experiments and using laboratory equipment safely.
- Team Collaboration: Willingness to work with colleagues to enhance the school’s science program.
- Commitment to Growth: Dedication to professional development and staying updated with advances in science education.
- DBS: Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
