Mental Health Teaching Assistant

Location: Bournemouth

Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)

Start date: Immediate

Contract type: Full Time/Part time

GSL Education are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a co-educational secondary school in Bournemouth. As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students' well-being, helping them navigate challenges, and fostering a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities of a Mental Health Teaching Assistant include:

  • Assisting teachers in creating a safe and supportive classroom environment.
  • Providing one-on-one and group support to students with mental health needs.
  • Working closely with students to develop coping strategies and resilience.
  • Monitoring and recording student progress, reporting any concerns to the relevant staff.
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and external agencies to create personalised support plans.
  • Participating in team meetings and contribute to the planning and review of mental health interventions.

Requirements for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree or other relevant degrees.
  • Relevant experiences or training in Mental health, behavioural studies or Psychology.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to understanding and addressing the diverse needs of learners
    • Understanding of mental health issues and the challenges students may face.
