Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant

Location: Ringwood

Salary: £12.82 - £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)

Contract: Part-time/Full-time

Start Date: Immediate

GSL Education are searching for a committed and nurturing SEMH Teaching Assistant to join one of our client schools in Ringwood. This rewarding role allows you to make a real difference by helping students develop resilience, self-confidence and essential skills to succeed in their education.

About the Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with children who require extra emotional and social support, tailoring interventions to their unique needs. Working alongside teachers and support staff, you’ll help create a safe and inclusive space that encourages engagement and academic progress, while also addressing behavioural challenges constructively.

Responsibilities

· Provide tailored one-to-one or small group support for students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

· Use positive behaviour management strategies to create a safe and productive learning environment.

· Assist with planning and delivering activities and interventions to meet individual needs.

· Collaborate with staff and external agencies to create personalised support plans for each student.

· Monitor and assess student progress, sharing updates with the school team and families.

· Build trusting relationships with students, encouraging them to express themselves and develop coping strategies.

· Support classroom activities to ensure students feel included and able to participate.

Requirements

· Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or qualifications in education, psychology or mental health support, is desirable.

· A caring and empathetic nature, with a genuine passion for helping students overcome challenges.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills to liaise with staff, students, and families.

· Understanding of SEMH challenges and the ability to adapt your approach to suit individual needs.

· Resilience, flexibility, and a positive attitude when faced with challenging behaviours.

· An up-to-date CV and an enhanced DBS registered on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
