Design Technology Teacher
Location: Southampton
Start Date: January 2025
Salary: MPS/UPS

Contract Type: Full-Time


GSL Education are recruiting a Design Technology Teacher to work within a Client Secondary School located in Southampton, starting in January 2025. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate knowledge and passion for the subject, as well as a commitment to supporting the department's day-to-day operations.

Applications from Design Technology teachers with a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and specialisations are encouraged, regardless of having experience or being recently qualified.

About this Role:

  • Primary duties include teaching Design & Technology students of KS3, KS4 and KS5, lesson planning, and developing medium- and long-term plans.
  • Implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate.
  • Evaluating the ability of individual students, putting together BTEC materials for exams, and helping students with special needs.
  • Support students by delivering differentiated Design Technology lessons that are accessible to students with varying special needs.
  • Contribute and engage in extra-curricular Design and Technology activities.
  • Take part in staff training days, staff meetings and parent’s evenings.

Design Technology Teacher requirements:

  • A UK teaching qualification namely e.g. PGCE in Design and Technology or B.Ed with QTS.
  • Proven experience teaching Design Technology, ideally in an SEN or inclusive setting, with a strong understanding of the challenges and strategies for working with students with SEN.
  • Interested in children as individuals, in how they learn and in a collaborative approach to learning.
  • Aware of appropriate strategies for mixed-attainment teaching and adapt to the varying demands of each classroom situation.
  • Be effective at behaviour management linked to complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for a new one.
