In this significant role, you will be instrumental in tailored support to students with disabilities, helping them to engage with the curriculum, develop social skills and achieve their full potential.

About the role:

As a Disability Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in providing personalised care and assistance to students with disabilities. In this essential role, you will provide tailored support to students with disabilities, ensuring they can fully participate in their education and achieve their potential. Your role will involve working closely with teachers and other support staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that meets the individual needs of each student.

Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with disabilities, assisting them with their academic, social and personal development.
  • Implement personalised strategies and interventions to support the unique needs of each student, fostering their independence and confidence.
  • Assist teachers in developing and maintaining Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers, parents and relevant professionals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the well-being and engagement of all students.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to supporting students with disabilities.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of disabilities within the school community, contributing to a supportive and inclusive ethos.

Requirements of a Disability Teaching Assistant:

  • Have prior experience working with children or young people with disabilities, ideally within an educational setting.
  • A strong understanding of disability support strategies and effective techniques to promote inclusion and accessibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Patience empathy and a commitment to providing high-quality support to students with diverse needs.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
