Job Title: Speech and Language Therapy Assistant
Location: Scarborough
Salary Range:
£83.34 - £96 per day (Depending on experience)
Start time: ASAP
Contract:
Day-to-day/Long-term, Part-time/Full-time 

Support the school's Speech and Language Therapists by conducting group and individual exercises designed to develop students' communication skills. The role requires someone who is highly organised, has great interpersonal skills, and ideally some previous experience in speech therapy or child development.

Responsibilities of the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant:

  • Assist the Speech and Language Therapists in planning and delivering therapy sessions for students with speech, language, and communication difficulties.
  • Conduct group and individual exercises to develop students' communication skills, following specific therapeutic programs.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing feedback to the Speech and Language Therapists.
  • Support students in the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools, where appropriate.
  • Help students to generalise new skills in a variety of settings, including classroom and social environments.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other staff members to ensure consistency in the support provided to students.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to therapy sessions, student progress, and interventions.
  • Assist in the creation of resources and activities that support the development of speech and language skills.
  • Provide support during assessments and evaluations, as required by the Speech and Language Therapists.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapy Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with children, particularly in speech therapy, child development, or special educational needs (SEN), is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents.
  • Ability to organise and manage therapy sessions and maintain accurate records.
  • Patience, empathy, and a proactive approach to supporting students’ development.
  • A relevant qualification in child development, education, or speech and language therapy assistance (e.g., NVQ Level 3 in childcare or equivalent) is preferred but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
