Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)

Salary: £87 - £108 per day (Depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Daily Supply/Long Term, Part Time/Full Time

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful secondary school in Gateshead, where you will play a key role in helping secondary students overcome challenges and achieve their full potential.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant in a secondary school dedicated to students with SEMH needs, you will work closely with students who require extra support. In this role, you will help foster a safe, nurturing environment and provide both academic and emotional guidance, empowering students to navigate their secondary education with greater confidence and resilience.
Key Responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary):
- Support students with SEMH needs in the classroom, helping them to engage in lessons and stay focused.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to help students with their academic work, as well as emotional and social development.
- Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies to ensure a positive learning environment.
- Monitor and track student progress, offering regular feedback to teaching staff to help adjust learning plans and support strategies.
- Work closely with other staff and external agencies to provide holistic support for students’ well-being.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment that encourages students to grow academically, emotionally, and socially.
- Experience working with secondary-aged students, particularly those with SEMH or other additional needs.
- A calm and patient approach, with the ability to handle challenging situations in a positive and proactive manner.
- Strong communication skills, able to build rapport with students and work collaboratively with teachers and other staff.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve success in their education.
- A team player who is adaptable and willing to take on new challenges in a dynamic school setting.
