Secondary Teaching Assistant

GSL Education are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Secondary Teaching Assistant to work at an Alternative Provision located in York, North Yorkshire, starting in January 2025. The position is suited for Graduates considering a career in the education sector, experienced Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant.

Secondary Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students, reinforcing learning objectives and promoting independent thinking.
  • To support the class teacher in the delivery of a creative curriculum, outdoor curriculum, or play-based learning curriculum.
  • To work in partnership with other support staff, teachers, and outside agencies to ensure each child receives the best education and support.
  • To track progress and developmental markers.
  • Foster a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere that encourages active participation and a love for learning.

Secondary Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Be educated to Degree level or hold a relevant Level 2 qualification or higher in childcare.
  • Have a clear understanding, knowledge, or hands-on experience of supporting people with autism, learning difficulties, social, emotional, and mental health needs or speech, language, and communication needs.
  • Be a flexible, dynamic, and reliable practitioner.
  • Have a genuine desire to work in the education sector.
  • Have a Child Only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one.
