GSL Education are ecstatic to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced and empathetic Learning Support Mentor to join a supportive school community in Weymouth. This role is essential in providing tailored support to students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.
About the role:
As a Learning Support Mentor, you will provide targeted academic and emotional support to students, facilitating their learning and development within a supportive educational environment. Your role will involve working closely with teachers, support staff and parents to create and implement effective learning strategies.
Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For:
- Offer one-on-one mentoring to students, assisting them with their academic work and helping them develop effective study habits.
- Lead small group sessions focusing on specific subjects or skills, tailored to the needs of the students.
- Track and assess students' progress, providing regular feedback to teachers and parents and adjusting support plans as needed.
- Develop and implement intervention strategies to address specific learning difficulties and behavioural issues.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Maintain regular communication with parents, involving them in their child's educational journey and progress.
Requirements of a Learning Support Mentor:
- Prior experience working in an educational setting, particularly in supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Additional qualifications in learning support or special educational needs are advantageous.
- A strong understanding of learning support strategies and effective techniques to promote inclusion and accessibility.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
- Patience empathy and a commitment to providing high-quality support to students with diverse needs.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
- Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).
