SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Portsmouth

Start Date: Immediate

Contract: Day-to-Day / Long-Term, Part-Time / Full-Time

Salary Scale: £12.82 to £14.72 per hour (Depending on experience)

GSL Educations are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant school, supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in Portsmouth.

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils’ individual learning needs, working closely with teaching staff to implement personalised learning strategies. This position is ideal for candidates with a passion for making a positive impact on students’ educational journeys.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Offer tailored support for students with SEN, both in one-to-one and group settings.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and monitoring individualised education plans (IEPs).
  • Provide emotional and behavioural support, fostering a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Support teachers in delivering engaging and inclusive lessons.
  • Observe and record student progress, reporting to the teaching staff and SENCo as needed.

Required Qualifications for an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children with SEN or in an educational support capacity.
  • Understanding of SEN strategies and a commitment to supporting individual learning needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive and encouraging approach.
  • Patience, empathy, and adaptability to work with a variety of student needs.
  • Relevant training or certifications in SEN support is advantageous.
