Salary: £12.82 - £12.82 per hour (Depending on experience)
Start date: January 2025 start (Immediately also possible)
Contract type: Day-to-Day/Long-Term, Full-time/Part-time

GSL Education are ecstatic to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced and empathetic Learning Support Mentor to join a supportive school community in Poole. In this significant role, you will be responsible for fostering a supportive environment, where each student can develop both academically and personally. You will work collaboratively with teaching staff to create inclusive learning experiences and help students engage confidently with the curriculum.

About the role:

As a Learning Support Mentor, you will provide targeted academic and emotional support to students, facilitating their learning and development within a supportive educational environment. Your role will involve working closely with teachers, support staff and parents to create and implement effective learning strategies.

Essential Qualities That We Are Looking For:

  • Provide one-on-one and group support to students with disabilities, assisting them with their academic, social and personal development.
  • Implement personalised strategies and interventions to support the unique needs of each student, fostering their independence and confidence.
  • Assist teachers in developing and maintaining Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised learning programmes.
  • Monitor and record student progress, providing regular feedback to teachers, parents and relevant professionals.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes the well-being and engagement of all students.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to supporting students with disabilities.
  • Promote awareness and understanding of disabilities within the school community, contributing to a supportive and inclusive ethos.

Requirements of a Learning Support Mentor:

  • Prior experience working in an educational setting, particularly in supporting students with diverse learning needs.
  • A strong understanding of learning support strategies and effective techniques to promote inclusion and accessibility.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff and families.
  • Patience empathy and a commitment to providing high-quality support to students with diverse needs.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

  • Have the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
  • Have an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
