Behaviour Mentor
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: January 2025
Salary: £83 – £100 per day
GSL Education is working with a highly reputable secondary school in York, to appoint a Behaviour Mentor to work 1:1 with a student. This is a full-time position which would suit an experienced Teaching Assistant, a Graduate with a Degree in Psychology or Special Educational Needs and Inclusion, or a Support Worker with experience managing triggers or behavioural challenges.
Behaviour Mentor Job Description:
- To support a secondary aged pupil on a 1:1 basis, helping them overcome barriers to learning inside and outside of school and helping them to achieve their full potential.
- To develop and maintain a 1:1 mentoring relationship with an identified pupil.
- To act as a motivator, role model and advocate for the young person.
- Work alongside class teachers, Head of Year, and the SENCO to promote the effective use of behaviour management strategies.
Ideal Behaviour Mentor Requirements:
- Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or a Degree in Psychology, Special Educational Needs and Inclusion or similar.
- Have a clear understanding of additional needs and how a special educational needs diagnosis can affect behaviour.
- Experience supporting young people with behavioural difficulties or social, emotional and mental health needs.
- Have a clear understanding of child protection and safeguarding.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
