Autism Teaching Assistant

Location: Totton

Start Date: Immediate

Contract: Full-time / Part-time

Salary Scale: £76.92 - £95.68 per day (Depending on experience)

GSL Education are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Autism Teaching Assistant to join one of our client schools, supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in Totton. This role is ideal for those who have a passion for working with children with special educational needs and who possess a patient and empathetic approach to teaching. Successful candidates will help to create a positive and inclusive learning environment tailored to each child’s unique requirements.

As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will provide one-on-one and group support to students with autism, ensuring they can engage in their education confidently and safely. Your role will involve assisting in the implementation of personalised learning plans, fostering social skills, and guiding students through classroom activities.

Responsibilities of an Autism Teaching Assistant:

  • Providing tailored support to students with autism, ensuring each individual’s needs are met.
  • Assisting with classroom management and promoting positive behaviour.
  • Supporting students during lessons, recreational activities, and therapy sessions.
  • Documenting and reporting progress to relevant staff and parents.
  • Assisting in implementing sensory and behavioural support strategies.

Qualifications for an Autism Teaching Assistant:

  • Prior experience working with children with autism or special educational needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a nurturing approach.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
  • Familiarity with sensory processing techniques and behavioural strategies is advantageous.
  • Relevant training in autism support or SEN (Special Educational Needs) is preferred.
