Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant
Location: Southbourne
Start Date: Immediate
Contract: Full-time / Part-time
Salary Scale: £76.92 - £95.68 per day (Depending on experience)
GSL Education are seeking an enthusiastic Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant school community in Southbourne. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of young people facing emotional and behavioural challenges.
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCO, and other staff to support students’ social, emotional, and academic needs, contributing to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment. This role requires resilience, empathy, and a strong commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning.
Responsibilities of an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Work 1:1 and in small groups to support students with SEMH needs
- Help implement individual behaviour and education plans (IEPs) and monitor progress
- Assist in creating a positive and encouraging classroom environment
- Support students in developing emotional and social skills, promoting positive behaviour
- Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and pastoral staff to address each child’s specific needs
Required Qualifications for an SEMH Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working with SEMH or SEN students is desirable
- A strong understanding of child safeguarding and protection
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Resilience, patience, and a caring approach
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for a new check
