Role Overview:
As an SEN Teacher, you will play an essential role in providing high-quality education and support to students with special educational needs. You will work closely with other staff to create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment where all students can succeed.

Responsibilities of an SEN Teacher:

  • Develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Create and deliver engaging lessons that accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, ensuring that all students can access the curriculum.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing regular feedback to students and their families to support their academic and emotional development.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes respect, understanding, and cooperation among students.
  • Collaborate with support staff, parents, and external agencies to coordinate care and support for students with SEN.
  • Utilise a range of teaching strategies and resources to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, achievements, and behaviour, ensuring that documentation is up to date.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in SEN education and participate in professional development opportunities.

Qualifications for an SEN Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience working with students with special educational needs, ideally within a classroom setting.
  • Strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and relevant educational legislation.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • A commitment to the educational and emotional development of students with SEN.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or a willingness to apply for one.
