Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants
Location: York, North Yorkshire
Start Date: November 2024
Salary: £83 - £100 per day
GSL Education are actively recruiting experienced Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants to work at a Special Educational Needs School in York, North Yorkshire starting in November 2024.
Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants Requirements:
- Have recent experience supporting children or adults with Autism.
- Be knowledge of associated needs and behaviours linked to Autism.
- Be trained in de-escalation, Team Teach, MAPA or NAPPI (this is not essential, but desirable).
- Have a calm, nurturing and patient persona.
- Have experience using PECs and Makaton to communicate with children or adults with speech, language and communication needs.
- Be a flexible education practitioner, who can adapt quickly to situations.
- Hold an Enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service or be willing to have one processed via GSL Education.
Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants Responsibilities:
- Assist the classroom teacher in planning and implementing lessons that accommodate the diverse needs of students with autism
- Work closely with students with autism to provide individualized support based on their specific needs and abilities.
- Help students develop their communication and social skills.
- Collaborate with the teacher and other professionals to develop and implement behavior management plans tailored to the needs of students with autism.
- Collect data on student progress and behaviours, which can help inform individualized education plans and assess the effectiveness of interventions.
- Foster positive relationships with students with autism, their families, and other staff members
As an Autism Specialist Teaching Assistants, it is vital to understand autism and the behaviours it can present. You should have a natural enthusiasm and positive outlook to engage and support young people. Having a good sense of humour and being resilient will prove vital to becoming a successful member of the team.
