About the role:
As an Autism Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. You will work closely with teachers and other support staff to help students overcome barriers to learning and develop their social and academic skills.
Responsibilities of the Autism Teaching Assistant:
- Support the development and implementation of Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) for students with autism, ensuring each plan is tailored to their unique needs.
- Provide focused one-on-one assistance to help students engage in their learning and accomplish tasks effectively.
- Promote a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages acceptance and understanding among all students.
- Monitor and assess student progress closely, offering feedback to teachers and adjusting support methods to best aid student success.
- Work collaboratively with teachers and parents to create a unified approach to each student’s growth and development.
- Utilise diverse teaching methods to motivate and engage students, catering to their individual learning styles and needs.
Requirements of the Autism Teaching Assistant:
- Prior experience working with students with autism is essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Demonstrate patience and empathy in interactions with students, helping them feel valued and understood.
- Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs are desirable but not essential.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
