Academic Support Mentor
Location: Weymouth
Start Date: December 2024/January 2025
Contract: Full-time
Salary Scale: £12.82 per hour
GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Academic Support Mentor with a passion for nurturing young individuals and a strong understanding of SEND, particularly ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and disabilities. This role focuses on delivering effective academic and emotional support to students in an inclusive, supportive environment. You will work alongside a committed team to provide high-quality mentoring and support, fostering an environment where every learner can thrive and succeed.
As an Academic Support Mentor, you will play a pivotal role in providing both academic and behavioural support to students with additional learning needs. Your primary responsibility will be to enhance students’ academic engagement and emotional wellbeing, fostering positive behaviour and self-confidence.
Responsibilities of an Academic Support Mentor:
- Offer one-to-one and group academic support to students with additional needs.
- Collaborate with teaching staff to design and implement tailored learning interventions.
- Monitor and report on student progress, adapting support strategies as needed.
- Encourage positive behaviour and self-regulation through guidance and reinforcement.
- Assist in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Required Qualifications for an Academic Support Mentor:
- Proven experience in supporting SEND students, particularly those with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, and disabilities.
- A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection protocols.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with students, staff, and parents/carers.
- Experience with individualised education plans (IEPs) and learning adaptations.
- Relevant qualifications in SEND, education, or related field are desirable.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for a new one.
