About the Role
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with mental health needs, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with a team of dedicated professionals to create and implement individualised support plans tailored to each student’s needs. Key Responsibilities of Mental Health Teaching Assistant
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualised support plans for students with mental health needs, assessing each student’s unique needs and abilities, and setting specific goals.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support tailored to students’ needs, ensuring they receive the attention and assistance they need to succeed.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting support strategies as necessary to ensure that each student is progressing towards their goals.
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and parents to ensure a cohesive approach to each student’s education and well-being, sharing insights and strategies to support their development.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued, respected, and supported, encouraging positive interactions and a sense of community.
- Use a variety of support methods to engage and motivate students, catering to different learning styles and preferences, and making learning enjoyable and effective.
- Keep detailed records of each student’s progress, including assessments, observations, and feedback, and communicate this information to parents, support staff, and other relevant parties to ensure transparency and collaboration.
Requirements of Mental Health Teaching Assistant
- Prior experience in supporting students with special educational needs is essential.
- Excellent communication skills are crucial for effectively interacting with students, parents, and colleagues, fostering positive relationships.
- Demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain strong, supportive relationships with all members of the school community, creating a positive and collaborative environment.
- Show a deep commitment to helping students with mental health needs, exhibiting patience and empathy in interactions.
- Relevant qualifications or training in mental health education (desirable but not essential).
To work with GSL Education as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will need:
- Have the right to work in the UK.
- Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years.
- Have a DBS registered to the Updated Service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education.
