GSL Education Hull Branch are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to work with a dynamic school in Scunthorpe. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a major role in supporting students in developing their confidence, skills, and independence within a nurturing environment. Working closely with teachers and other support staff, your contribution will be vital in creating a positive and inclusive learning experience. Responsibilities of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Assist in the classroom and provide one-on-one support to students with SEMH needs.
  • Assist in managing and reducing challenging behaviours with patience and effective strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement tailored learning plans based on individual student needs.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment where students feel safe and supported.
  • Support students with personal care and life skills development as needed.
  • Maintain strong communication with staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment to support students' emotional well-being.

Requirements of the SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Previous experience working with students or in a Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) setting.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH challenges.
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to managing challenging behaviour.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to engage with students and staff.
  • A genuine commitment to supporting the educational and emotional needs of students with SEMH.
  • Have an updated CV and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
