GSL Education are seeking Learning Support Assistant to work at an Alternative Provisions in York, North Yorkshire, starting in November 2024.

Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Supporting primary students with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties, speech, language, and communication needs and social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Provide tailored support to SEN students, helping them with academic tasks, study strategies, and navigating the college environment.
  • Work closely with lecturers and course leaders to implement personalized learning plans that meet the specific needs of each student.
  • Provide emotional and social support to students, helping them to build confidence and resilience in a higher education setting. 
  • Adhere to college safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • A degree in education, psychology, social work, or a related field is essential.
  • Proven experience supporting students with SEN, particularly in a higher education setting, is highly desirable.
  • A solid understanding of various SEN conditions, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Be compassionate, caring, and have a genuine desire to help overcome students’ barriers.
  • Hold a DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
