Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Location: York, North Yorkshire

Salary: £83 - £100 per day

Start Date: November 2024

Contract Type: Full-Time

GSL Education are seeking compassionate and dedicated Special Needs Teaching Assistant tomake a positive impact on students' lives by joining an Alternative Provision in York, North Yorkshire, starting in November 2024.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Under the expert guidance and supervision of a certified teacher, conduct learning activities differentiating and tailoring curricula to meet the needs of assigned students with special needs.
  • In collaboration with the teacher, create and assess specialised learning activities, and if needed, prepare reports and records.
  • Work with students on care or therapy plans that are created and overseen by a care specialist or therapist.
  • Encourage students to collaborate and communicate with one another, and involve every student in activities.
  • Participate in creating, organizing, and carrying out students' individual development plans which may include scheduling, attending, and contributing to evaluations.
  • As students are learning, keep an eye on their behavior and conduct and take action to address any complex, hard, or challenging issues.

Special Needs Teaching Assistant Requirements:

  • Must hold the Right to Work in the UK.
  • Relevant qualifications in education or SEN support (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification).
  • Training in behavior management and de-escalation techniques is desirable.
  • Experience working with children who have a variety of disabilities and/or learning difficulties, or an eagerness to go through training.
  • Be aware of and knowledgeable about different additional needs such as ASC, ADHD, MLD and SEMH.
  • Confident in the delivery of pre-planned lessons and interventions.
  • Hold a Child only DBS registered to the update service or be willing to apply for one through GSL Education.
