Role: Teaching Assistant - SEMH specialist 

Location: Bournemouth

Pay: £12.82 per hour

Start date: After October Half Term 2024

Hours: 12:00 – 3:00

GSL Education are looking for a pro-active, committed and resilient SEN teaching assistant who has prior experience working with pupils with complex needs, including providing personal care where needed. If you are passionate about providing SEN support and you have a good understanding of complex behaviours, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

This role will also have some variety, where you will have opportunity to support children across different year groups, as well as working with a team of support staff to provide tailored provision to SEMH pupils. As part of this role, you will be required to work 1:1 with challenging pupils, enabling them to successfully integrate at their own level, and receive consistent care and support. Activities with SEN and SEMH pupils will take place both in the classroom and across the school on tailored timetables and bespoke plans.

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is essential.

Role of an SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Supporting the Class Teacher, consistently implementing behaviour policies and reinforcing the learning
  • Working with pupils with complex needs, challenging behaviours and additional learning needs
  • 1:1 and small group work ensuring pupils stay engaged and motivated
  • Communicating regularly with school staff and leadership

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have lots of patience, be proactive and resilient! - this role can be challenging, but it is very rewarding!
  • Experience working within a SEN/SEMH school (preferred, not essential), or experience working with children or adults with additional needs
  • A strong ability to develop relationships and rapport with pupils
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
