GSL Education is currently supporting an SEND school in Bodmin that is seeking dedicated Learning Mentors to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis, with the opportunity to go permanent. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with complex needs or EHCP pupils who are at risk of requiring residential placements. The students have previously struggled to thrive in mainstream Cornwall secondary or special schools, or they are returning from out-of-county placements.

The school provides personalised wrap-around education, often involving one-to-one support and bespoke timetables with thematic learning experiences. The aim is to engage students, build resilience, and foster rapid academic progress through a combination of in-class and out-of-class learning opportunities.

The School:
The school operates across multiple settings and is seeking Learning Mentors who are happy to work with students across Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 4. Every child receives a high level of personalised support.

Please note:

  • Multiple vacancies are available.
  • A UK driving licence and own car are required for this role, along with business insurance, as travel between sites may be necessary.
  • This role can be challenging due to the nature of the students' complex needs and behavioural challenges, so resilience and commitment are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide students as Learning Mentor, offering personalised guidance and support.
  • Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to develop comprehensive support plans.
  • Foster a nurturing environment that promotes improved social interactions and communication skills.
  • Assist with daily tasks, academic activities, and implement effective interventions to address behavior challenges and promote positive outcomes.

Requirements:

  • UK DRIVING LICENSE WITH ACCESS TO A CAR
  • HAPPY TO USE THE CAR FOR BUSINESS USE AND HAVE BUSINESS INSURANCE
  • Be available asap on a full time basis
  • Effective communication abilities to ensure clear interactions
  • Demonstrated Patience and Empathy along with flexibility and adaptability
  • Dedication to the Success of Students

We welcome applications from individuals who are enthusiastic about making a real difference in the lives of students with complex needs and who are committed to working in a fast-paced, highly supportive environment.

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection, and successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks, including providing an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or completing an application for a new check.

At GSL Education, we are committed to providing high-quality teaching and support staff for schools throughout Cornwall and beyond.
