SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)
Location: Ashington
Salary: £75-£110 per day
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Supply or Long Term

Are you passionate about supporting children with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? GSL Education Newcastle are looking for an enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Ashington.

Responsibilities as a SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Support children with SEMH needs in a primary school setting.
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to assist with learning and development.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with teachers and SENCO to create a nurturing environment.
  • Help pupils to engage fully in their education and activities.
  • Provide feedback to teachers on pupil progress and needs.

Requirements for  SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs (desirable but not essential)
  • A calm, patient, and positive approach to working with children.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A commitment to supporting the mental and emotional wellbeing of pupils.
  • An understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one).

Please be advised that this role requires a strong knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection and that successful applicants must satisfy all background safer recruitment checks including an enhanced DBS on the update service.
