SEMH Teaching Assistant (Primary)

Location: Newcastle

Salary: £75-£110 per day

Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are looking for a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic primary school in Newcastle. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with students who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, helping them thrive in a supportive and nurturing environment.

As a SEMH Teaching Assistant in a primary school, you will play a vital role in helping students develop socially and emotionally, as well as assisting with their learning journey. If you're ready to take on this rewarding role, we would love to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

  • Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them navigate challenges in their learning environment.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher to provide tailored support during lessons, ensuring active participation.
  • Offer individualized one-on-one support to students who need extra guidance.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour management strategies, ensuring adherence to classroom rules.
  • Encourage the development of positive social skills and emotional resilience among students.
  • Monitor student progress and regularly report to the teacher and SENCO.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment where all students feel supported and motivated.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a SEMH Teaching Assistant or in a similar role in a primary school setting.
  • A relevant teaching assistant qualification such as NVQ or CACHE can be beneficial but not mandatory.
  • A genuine passion for working with children with SEMH needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and follow the teacher’s guidance.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection policies.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willing to apply for one.
