A vibrant co-educational secondary school in Hackney is seeking an enthusiastic and inspiring History Subject Lead to join their team starting in January 2025. If you are passionate about history and ready to take on a leadership role, this exciting opportunity is perfect for you!

As the History Subject Lead, you will guide the history department, ensuring high-quality teaching and learning across all year groups. You will lead curriculum development, support colleagues, and help shape the future historians of tomorrow. The school is looking for a History Subject Lead who can engage students and deliver lessons that foster a deep understanding of historical events and their relevance in today's world.

History Subject Lead Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the history department, ensuring the consistent delivery of an exciting and rigorous curriculum.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging history lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies that inspire students and improve their historical understanding.
  • Oversee the assessment and monitoring of student progress, providing constructive feedback to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Support and mentor other history teachers, sharing best practices and promoting professional development.
  • Work closely with school leadership to develop departmental policies and strategies for academic success.
  • Organise history-related school events, trips, and enrichment activities to enhance students' learning experience.

History Subject Lead Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in teaching history, with the ability to lead and manage a subject department.
  • Strong organisational and leadership skills with a passion for curriculum development.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and inspire students of all abilities.
  • A commitment to maintaining high educational standards and student achievement.
