SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: Hexham
Salary: £75 - £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are looking for an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and dynamic secondary school in Hexham. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who wants to make a positive impact on young people’s lives while developing their own career.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with secondary  students who require additional support, helping them to engage in their learning and manage their emotions. You will be part of a dedicated team focused on providing the best possible education and care for each child.

Responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary):

  • Support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in a secondary school setting.
  • Help students to develop positive coping strategies and encourage positive behaviour.
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to assist their learning and emotional development.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to implement tailored learning plans.
  • Create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.

Requirements for the SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary):

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an educational or support setting.
  • A passion for helping young people with SEMH needs.
  • Patience, empathy, and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within a team and build positive relationships with students.
  • Relevant qualifications or experience in education or mental health support would be advantageous.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
