SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary)
Location: Sunderland
Salary: £75 - £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a fantastic Secondary school in Sunderland, where you'll make a real difference to students' lives.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant in a secondary school, you will play a vital role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges. You will be instrumental in helping them reach their full potential, both academically and in their personal development.

Responsibilities as an SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary):

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs.
  • Assist the teacher in managing classroom behaviour and creating a positive learning environment.
  • Help students develop social and emotional skills, encouraging positive interactions.
  • Collaborate with the wider school team to plan and implement targeted interventions suited to secondary-level students.
  • Monitor and track students' progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Support students in developing strategies to regulate their emotions and behaviours.

To be a successful SEMH Teaching Assistant (Secondary), you need:

  • Experience working with young people, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  • A calm, patient, and understanding approach.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work well in a team and under the guidance of teachers.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
  • Have an updated CV (covering last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
