SEN Maths Teacher
Location: Kent
Salary: £120 - £240 per day
Start Date: Immediately

GSL Education are seeking a passionate and experienced SEN Mathematics Teacher to join our client SEN schools in Kent. This is an excellent opportunity for a Qualified Teacher to work with students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), making a meaningful difference in their educational journey. Job Summary:
As an SEN Maths Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality mathematics lessons tailored to the needs of students with a variety of special educational needs (SEN) requirements. You will be expected to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment, ensuring each student receives the support necessary to thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities for SEN Maths Teacher:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Maths lessons that meet the individual learning needs of students with SEN.
  • Differentiate lessons to cater to students with a range of abilities, including those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with SENCOs, support staff, and parents.
  • Use a range of teaching techniques and resources to engage students and ensure they make progress.
  • Provide one-on-one support and small group teaching to students requiring additional help in Maths.
  • Assess student progress regularly, providing constructive feedback and adapting lesson plans as needed to suit each student’s development.
  • Maintain detailed records of students’ progress, achievements, and areas requiring improvement.
  • Implement and manage classroom behaviour strategies to create a positive, safe, and inclusive environment for learning.
  • Work closely with SEN support staff, learning mentors, and external professionals to deliver cohesive care and education plans.
  • Liaise with parents and carers regularly to report on student progress and address any concerns.
  • Participate in professional development sessions to stay up-to-date with SEN teaching strategies and best practices.
  • Contribute to the wider school community, including involvement in meetings, school initiatives, and curriculum development.

Essential Requirements for SEN Maths Teacher:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Experience teaching Maths to students with SEN, particularly those with ASC, ADHD, MLD, and SEMH needs.
  • Previous experience in a special school or SEN-specific setting.
  • Further SEN qualifications or training in areas such as Autism, SEMH, or Speech and Language Development.
  • Proven ability to differentiate lessons and create accessible and inclusive learning environments.
  • Strong understanding of the national Maths curriculum and how to adapt it for SEN learners.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, support staff, parents, and external professionals.
  • Patience, resilience, and a passion for supporting students with additional needs to achieve their potential.
  • Experience in assessing student progress and implementing strategies to ensure continuous improvement.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service or a willingness to apply for one.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
