EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary)
Location: Gateshead, Newcastle
Salary: £75 - £110 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education’s Newcastle branch is excited to offer an opportunity for a compassionate and dedicated EAL Teaching Assistant to work with primary-aged students who have English as an Additional Language (EAL) in schools across Gateshead. This role is perfect for those who are passionate about supporting the educational and linguistic development of young learners in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Job Summary:
As an EAL Teaching Assistant for EAL students, you will provide tailored support to help children overcome language barriers and fully engage in their education. Working closely with classroom teachers and the EAL department, your role will be to assist in the students’ social and academic development, ensuring they feel supported and confident in the classroom setting.

Key Responsibilities for EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with EAL needs, helping them improve their language skills and engage with the curriculum.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of strategies to support students’ language acquisition.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers to create a welcoming, inclusive environment where students can thrive.
  • Support students' social integration and development, helping them to build confidence and independence.
  • Monitor student progress and report back to teachers on their achievements and areas for improvement.
  • Assist with general classroom duties, ensuring all students are engaged and receiving appropriate support.
  • Help to promote a positive and inclusive atmosphere for all students, regardless of their background.

Essential Requirements for EAL Teaching Assistant (Primary):

  • Previous experience working with children, ideally in an educational setting, and/or supporting those with EAL.
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by EAL learners and strategies to help overcome them.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with children from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students achieve their potential.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic school environment.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service or a willingness to apply for one.
