SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire
Salary: £90 - £120 per day
Start Date: ASAP

GSL Education’s South Yorkshire branch is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with Special Educational Needs in schools across Sheffield. This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals passionate about providing tailored support to children with additional learning needs.

Job Summary:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other support staff to provide personalised learning support to students with a range of special educational needs, such as Autism (ASD), ADHD, and other learning difficulties. You will play a key role in helping students access the curriculum and achieve their educational goals in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities for SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide one-to-one or small group support for students with SEN, helping them to engage with learning activities.
  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support students’ social and emotional development.
  • Work closely with the class teacher to modify lesson plans and activities to suit the needs of SEN pupils.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and assist with behaviour management strategies, promoting a calm and focused learning environment.
  • Support students with personal care needs (where applicable), ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the school day.
  • Liaise with parents, teachers, and SEN coordinators to ensure students’ progress and well-being.

Essential Requirements for SEN Teaching Assistant:

  • Experience working with children with SEN in an educational or care setting.
  • A good understanding of various SEN conditions, such as Autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive approach to working with children with additional needs.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A valid DBS registered on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for one.
